What is Remote Notarization?
Remote notarization is the process of getting a document notarized over a secure two-way audio-visual meeting. Remote notarizations are usually thought of not secure because you can’t meet in person. This is a very wrong concept of remote notarization. Remote notarization uses KBA and Credential Analysis verification. That means every individual looking to get a document notarized online will have to answer identifying questions (KBA) that only that person would know, then the platform will perform a credential analysis on the forms of ID presented.
What is the process?
The process to get documents notarized remotely is a little different than in person transactions. The process is as follows:
Make an appointment by website, call, message, or email.
Begin the intake process on ‘Proof’.
Securely upload the document(s)
Add the required personal information.
Upload a valid government issued photo ID
Ensure your computers microphone and camera are working properly.
*NOTE* if your microphone and camera are not working properly, the meeting may be terminated.
Join the virtual meeting no later than 15 minutes after the meeting start time.
Agree to the terms of remote notarization from the notary public.
Take an oath or affirmation (if document requires).
Sign & date in the specified areas of the document.
Submit payment to the notary public.
That’s it? You’ve gotten your document(s) notarized and can submit them to the receiving party.
